The Knapper Experience was formed in London in 2005 by Roger Kennedy and Dan Martin. With little or no money behind it, the aim was to create relevant, accessible, funny theatre that could be taken from venue to venue with no significant costs.
As well as hoping to appeal to the people who traditionally support and enjoy new writing, The Knapper Experience seeks to entertain people who would not usually consider themselves theatre-goers. The company has been very successful in achieving this through a mixture of sharp, unpretentious writing and a willingness to perform not only in established venues, but also in pubs and music venues with no history of theatre production.
Having written and performed six contemporary comedies in five years, in venues ranging from a community centre in Sussex to the Gilded Balloon in Edinburgh, The Knapper Experience is now beginning work on a period comedy for the 2010 Brighton Festival.
Mill has produced several fringe shows since graduating from Royal Holloway in 2005 with an MA in Greek Theatre Performance, and a BA (Hons) in Classical Studies and Drama.
Her previous shows include: Macbeth (The Troika Collective, New Wimbledon Studio - Production Assistant/Stage Manager), The Brother: A True Story (Big Belly Productions, Lion and Unicorn, Kentish Town - Co-producer), Utter Bellocs (Discombobulated and Me, White Bear, Kennington - Producer/Lighting Operator; The Hope, Brighton Fringe 2008 - Producer/Actor; The Victoria Institute, Arundel Town Festival 2008 - Producer/Actor), The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari (Discombobulated and Me, White Bear, Kennington - Producer/Stage Manager), Falling Off The Stage (DingyAnn Theatre, Etcetera Theatre, Camden Fringe 2008 - Technical Operator).
Since September 2008, she has been working with sketch comedy group Unsupervised Detention and musical comedy duo Pig With The Face Of A Boy, producing monthly shows at London’s Canal Café Theatre, as well as touring to Brighton Fringe 2009 (Komedia Studio), and Edinburgh Fringe 2009 (Gilded Balloon, and Laughing Horse Free Festival at The Newsroom). She is looking forward to collaborating with The Knapper Experience in 2010.
She has also taken part in events organised by Masterclass at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, and the Old Vic New Voices scheme. In 2008, she attended the Stage One Workshop for New Producers - a three day course learning about commercial producing from industry professionals.
