The Knapper Experience was formed in London in 2005 by Roger Kennedy and Dan Martin. With little or no money behind it, the aim was to create relevant, accessible, funny theatre that could be taken from venue to venue with no significant costs.
As well as hoping to appeal to the people who traditionally support and enjoy new writing, The Knapper Experience seeks to entertain people who would not usually consider themselves theatre-goers. The company has been very successful in achieving this through a mixture of sharp, unpretentious writing and a willingness to perform not only in established venues, but also in pubs and music venues with no history of theatre production.
Having written and performed six contemporary comedies in five years, in venues ranging from a community centre in Sussex to the Gilded Balloon in Edinburgh, The Knapper Experience is now beginning work on a period comedy for the 2010 Brighton Festival.
